Well of Shadows
The Well of Shadows is a common stop for adventurers and the occasional merchant passing through the Vale. Located in the middle of a small copse of trees, the old stone well offers little more than just a clean source of water and a place to make camp, although few stay longer than it takes for a quick rest. Thieves are a common sight for parties unprepared for the rigors of the Vale, especially with the weakening of the Watch’s presence outside the city.
Only a few years ago, the Well was regarded as a relatively safe place, being close enough to the Fastness to warrant a near constant Watch presence. After the Ghostwood campaign, however, Watch are very rarely seen on the city walls, much less in the woods that typify the Vale. Safety, for the most part, falls to the individuals themselves and those willing to ensure it.
Legend holds that a famous highwayman, whose name has been lost to history, operated near the Well, drawing an obscuring cloud of shadow from the Well itself to aid him while he plied his trade. The legend still persists despite years and years of passing without so much as a single trace of the thief, although no record of his death has ever been found.
